What is Clinical Myotherapy?
Clinical Myotherapy is the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions. Modalities used for treatment are tailored to the individual patient and presenting musculoskeletal complaint. Management of musculoskeletal pain or injury is also extremely important, therefore patients are given self-treatment and/or exercises to complete to help them away from the clinic.
Myotherapy has its origins in massage but was taken into a new level in the 1990’s when it became focused on specific pain complaints and incorporating myofascial dry needling, cupping, and strategies for the management of musculoskeletal conditions. In the early 2000’s the education for Myotherapy (and subsequently Clinical Myotherapy) was offered at a degree level at Southern School of Natural Therapies and is now being offered at different educational institutes Australia wide.

About me
I first completed a Bachelor of Science at Monash university in 2002, majoring in Anatomy and Physiology. This degree was then followed by a Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Myotherapy) at the Southern School of Natural Therapies (SSNT). I have been treating patients in clinics across Melbourne since 2006. I work with all types of conditions, from overworked muscles and joints to high level sporting injuries. I worked as a senior lecturer at SSNT until 2012. I was lecturing for 5 years in the fields of Pain Management (Neurophysiology of Pain, Chronic and Acute pain), Anatomy and Physiology (Musculoskeletal, Nervous, and Cardiovascular systems), Dry needling (application and science), and Clinical Experience (internal student clinic, and managing external student clinic). I have a particular interest in chronic pain management but am well equipped to treat all sorts of myofascial pain and injuries. My treatments focus on reducing pain and providing ways for people to manage their pain away from a clinical setting.
I'm an advanced member of Massage & Myotherapy Australia.
